Google will begin testing autonomous cars in self-driving service

After almost a decade of research, Google's autonomous car project is close to becoming a real service as it begins testing its vehicles with consumers in the U.S. Now known as Waymo, the Alphabet self-driving car unit is letting residents in Phoenix sign up to use its vehicles in a self-driving car ride service. It's a major step toward commercializing a technology that could one day upend transportation.
PORSCHE 911 SPEEDSTER WILL GO INTO PRODUCTION

Based on the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet bodyshell, with a more aerodynamic windshield angle and shorter side windows, the 911 Speedster is a more hardcore 991 iteration as it was developed by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach. The chassis utilizes 911 GT3 parts, the fenders, the hood and the engine cover are carbon fiber, and the exhaust system and six-speed manual gearbox come courtesy of Porsche's GT department. There's also a certain GT3 spirit to the drivetrain, as the engine is a naturally aspirated flat six capable of 9,000 rpm and "more than 500 horsepower."

When the dust settled, this bright orange coupe went to a new home for just under $15,000. This is an incredible amount of car for the money, especially with a 5.6-liter (340 ci.) Mopar V-8 providing motivation for tire obliteration. No info on how much power it puts down, only that it’s through a four-speed manual transmission. For less than half the price of a brand new 2019 Ford Mustang GT, this orange muscle bruiser offers up more fun.

A good example: FCA US' Chrysler 200. The automaker spent more than $1 billion in 2013 retooling its Sterling Heights, Mich., assembly plant to build a redesigned 200 on a new platform.
