Posted by Michael Thomas at
RENO, Nev. – Aug 11, 2015 – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions®, created a global stage for custom cars during the 3rd Annual Hot August Nights Auction presented by Barrett-Jackson in Reno, Nevada, on Aug. 6-8. For the third year, the auction held the world’s most celebrated custom car competition, the Barrett-Jackson Cup. With over $100,000 in cash and prizes on the line, Randy and Lisa Wilcox took home “Best in Show” with their 1962 Chevrolet Impala Bubbletop.
“Our third year in Reno produced an entirely new level of excitement,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We began with professional stunt driver Rhys Millen tearing up the streets of downtown Reno to deliver the Barrett-Jackson Cup trophy in a 2015 Dodge Hellcat. The buzz escalated as anticipation mounted around who would be crowned the 2015 Barrett-Jackson Cup champion. The success of this year’s Reno auction demonstrates that Barrett-Jackson remains at the forefront of the American collector car market.” more...
How Would You Spec The 2016 Mazda Miata?
Posted by Allen Willey at
The Miata’s always been such an easy sell to car enthusiasts. Even if you’re not wild about the styling it’s hard to argue with the rest of the car’s pros: inexpensive, reliable, fun. Now that the 2016 Mazda Miata configurator has gone live, we can build our own! We’ll show you ours if you show us yours.
My dream roadster keeps it simple. Base model, manual shift, white exterior and no options beyond rubber floor mats and a cargo net because... apparently I’m an old man. Who puts carpet in a car anyway? That never made sense to me. But at least my brand-new MX-5 only costs $26,000! more...
First Drive: Cadillac CTS-V

What is this?
This is the US’s sole answer to the European super saloons, the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V. Now lighter, stronger and more polished than ever before, the big V returns to do battle on road and track with an arsenal of new weapons.
Power is now provided by the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 borrowed from the Corvette Z06, with 10 fewer bhp than its coupe cousin at 640bhp. Weight has been pared back by 45kg over the outgoing model, giving it a 160kg head start over all its European rivals, particularly the class heavyweight, the Audi RS7.
And there is stacks of cool new technology, as we’ve come to expect on high-end Cadillacs and Corvettes: Performance Traction Mangement, third-generation magnetorheological dampers, a data recorder and an electronic rear diff are all present and correct. more...
Jaguar Land Rover moves closer to building Slovakia plant
Posted by Allen Willey at
Jaguar Land Rover has announced its intention to build a new assembly plant in Slovakia. Though it has yet to make the final decision, the British automaker has signed a Letter of Intent with the Slovakian government. Its next step is to launch a feasibility study before committing.
If the company does go ahead with plans, it wouldn't be the first automaker – or even the first European luxury automaker for that matter – to start producing in Slovakia. Nor would it be the first Jaguar Land Rover plant outside the UK, either. The Volkswagen Group, PSA Peugeot Citroën, and Kia all manufacture in the Central European country. VW's Bratislava plant in particular handles production of the Touareg, Audi Q7, and Porsche Cayenne. more...

McLaren will be returning to Pebble Beach this summer to showcase the customization options it offers through its Special Operations division.
